Jamaica Fire Brigade to Increase Fleet with Allocation of $498 Million

The Government will spend $498 million to increase the fleet and capacity of the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) to be able to adequately respond to emergencies.

The sum has been set aside in the 2019/20 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.

Under the Acquisition of Fixed Assets Project, which is being implemented by the JFB, an agency of the Local Government and Community Development, purchases will be made for two water tankers, four fire trucks, five emergency command vehicles, one box body truck and a deposit made on two fire trucks.

The final payment on two fire trucks procured in the 2018/19 Budget allocation will also be made.

To date, the JFB has procured an emergency command vehicle, two water tankers, four fire trucks in November 2016, December 2017 and October 2018 and a deposit made on the purchase of two fire trucks.
