KINGSTON, July 7 (JIS):

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says the Government is taking a systematic approach to relief efforts in hurricane-affected areas.

Speaking to residents at the Rocky Point Fishing Village during a tour of communities in Southeast Clarendon on Saturday (July 6), the Prime Minister said that the most vulnerable will be prioritised.

“We want to make sure there is a system in place so everybody can see and know what happens. We look at the people who are most vulnerable, meaning those who cannot help themselves – the elderly and children. Then we look at people who have lost their homes, totally; they have nowhere to live. Then we think in a strategic way….about what we can do to empower people to empower themselves,” he outlined.

The Prime Minister told the residents, many of whom are fisherfolk, that the plan is to enable persons to be able to support themselves again.

“A lot of persons have fish that is spoiling right now. So, how can we bring in refrigeration so at least you can start back quickly? That is how we are going to be treating with it,” he pointed out.

“I want to give the assurance that we are going to make provisions [for] the fishing village as quickly as possible and provide some relief aid, meaning roofing, water and other care packages. That is going to be done,” the Prime Minister pledged.
