The Full Story

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reminding business operators that GCT returns for the month of June is due on Thursday July 31, 2014.

Under the new policy relating to GCT on Government purchases, suppliers filing GCT returns and claiming credit, based on Withholding Tax Certificates (WTC) issued to them by a government Tax Withholding Entity (TWE), are reminded that they are required to file online. This will allow the data relating to the WTCs received to be automatically listed on the return when filing, provided it was uploaded by the TWE.

Tax Withholding entities (TWEs), which include ministries, departments, agencies and some public bodies, are required to upload the WTCs that they issue. It should be noted however that where a WTC is automatically reflected on a GCT return, the suppliers may contact the issuer of the certificates to request that it is uploaded.

Suppliers are reminded that where they are unable to claim their withholding tax credit from the WTC’s on their GCT return for June that they can do so in July or on a subsequent return.
