Faith Innerarity’s Principles Strengthened Her Service to Country says PM

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has issued the following statement of condolence on the death of Mrs. Faith Innerarity, a Former Permanent Secretary & Director-General in the Ministry of Labour & Social Security. The statement reads:

"I am saddened at the passing of my colleague in public service, Mrs. Faith Innerarity, who died on September 27, after battling a brief illness.

Mrs. Innerarity has been an outstanding civil servant who not only dedicated her life and work in the service of her country, but whose principled lifestyle strengthened the quality of her service to Jamaica. It was reassuring for me as Minister of Labour and Social Security to have had someone like Mrs. Innerarity by my side as she was not only a dedicated professional, but someone who vetted her thoughts and actions with Christian principles. 

‘Mrs. Inn’, as she was affectionately called by all of us working in the public service, exemplified her first name, and was a woman with ‘faith’ in the ability of the Jamaican people to overcome the development challenges and rise to greatness.

During her time as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Mrs. Innerarity's efforts supported a successful initiative that resulted in the removal of music and talk show content that was deemed harmful for our children and lowered the dignity of women.  She will always be remembered for her interest and passion in the progress of women in the society, and her active representation on a range of Committees at the United Nations and elsewhere in the service of her country. 

A champion for the development of social security systems to protect the poor and vulnerable in the society, the public service is richer from her lifetime of service and she will be missed. 

In testimony of her strength and the seriousness of pursuit for knowledge, Mrs. Innerarity recently successfully defended her doctoral thesis.

I am holding her husband, her son, and family members close in my prayers at this time of great loss and express the deepest sympathies on behalf of the Government and people of Jamaica."
