The Full Story

Psychiatrist, Dr. Winston De La Haye, is the country’s Acting Chief Medical Officer (CMO), replacing Dr. Marion Bullock DuCasse, who has retired.

This was disclosed by Minister of Health, Hon. Horace Dalley, during a press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister, in Kingston, on February 2.

A former Medical Association of Jamaica President, Dr. De La Haye chairs the Bellevue Hospital Board, as well as the Board of Supervision of the Ministry of Local Government. He is also Deputy Chairman of the National Council on Drug Abuse.

The Minister commended Dr. Bullock DuCasse for her years of service, noting that she served the Ministry with “distinction”.

“Dr. DuCasse has served the Government of Jamaica, served the people of  Jamaica and has served the Ministry of Health with distinction for many years. In fact, I can’t recall any public health emergency since about (Hurricane) Gilbert or so, when she  has never been involved,” he said.

He said the Ministry will find ways to “engage” Dr. Bullock DuCasse’s skills and talents “in very short order to ensure that she can train the young leaders in the Ministry.”

Dr. Bullock DuCasse was the CMO of Jamaica and technical adviser to the Government of Jamaica on all medical and health matters and connected areas since September 2014.

She also served as Senior Medical Officer and Director of Emergency Disaster Management and Special Services in the Ministry.
