The Full Story

The staging of the 10th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference is a time for all Jamaicans to unite in advancing the country’s welfare, says Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Alando Terrelonge.

“When Jamaica wins, we all win, and this Conference promises to be an amazing engagement of thoughts, ideas and solutions and giving back to the community,” he said, while addressing a recent JIS Think Tank.

The four-day Diaspora Conference commences today (June 16) at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St. James under the theme: ‘United for Jamaica’s Transformation: Fostering Peace, Productivity and Youth Empowerment.’

Mr. Terrelonge said the event is an opportunity for Jamaicans across the Diaspora to invest and capitalise on the unprecedented development taking place in the country.

He noted that overseas nationals can register their businesses on the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE), and invest in local stocks, agriculture, real estate and emerging markets such as the creative industries.

For his part, Conference Chairman, Courtney Campbell, said the event will showcase local businesses, including artisans, who will be able to obtain sales as persons purchase items to take back to their adopted countries.

“Certainly, for the business community in the west, there are a lot of benefits to be derived from this Conference,” he pointed out.

The Conference is supported by Government agencies, with sponsorship from legacy partners such as VM Group, GraceKennedy Group and Jamaica National Group, as well as other private sector entities.

It aims to harness the power of the Jamaican Diaspora to support nation building.
