The Full Story

The utilisation of cutting-edge technology continues to shape the reality of policing with improved efficiency in Jamaica, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Hon. Dr. Horace Chang, has said.

“The expansion and modernisation of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) have been critical to developing a powerful, digital-minded police force at this time in our nation’s history,” he noted, adding that the Government “is providing all the resources required to deal with criminal elements”.

According to the Minister, current technologies driving innovation and transformation within the JCF are “quality high-speed connectivity, digitisation, information technology and cyber operations”.

He was delivering the keynote address during Tuesday’s (February 28) Passing Out Parade Ceremony for 282 trainee constables at the National Police College of Jamaica in St. Catherine.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chang said JCF recruitments continue to be steadily driven by data, technology and a broad spectrum of specialised capabilities.

“Over the last 24 months, more than 2,000 trainee constables have been added to the cohort of the 21st century police officers,” he informed.

On February 1, 2023, the Government introduced an end-to-end digitised ticketing system, which increases the efficiency of the JCF’s Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB).

Other inputs to effectively equip the JCF include the provision of 25 new vehicles and renovation and construction works conducted at 134 police facilities, commencing December 2022.
