CSSB Commended for Involvement in Communities

Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security, Senator the Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr., is commending the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Community Safety and Security Branch (CSSB) for its commitment to community development.

The Minister, who spoke at the closing of the St. Mary CSSB annual domino competition in Port Maria recently, encouraged community members to assist is the prevention of crimes in their area by participating in activities, such as the domino tournament, to promote togetherness and good values.

“Having residents actively involved in community crime-prevention efforts will create a force multiplier for local law enforcement, giving them more eyes on the street,” he said.

The State Minister noted that the CSSB has been working hard in building relationships with communities to fight crime.

“I must commend the St. Mary Community Safety and Security Branch for hosting this competition that evidently shows the cooperation, dedication and competition among the participants of this Business House Domino Competition,” Senator Charles said.

He also expressed delight at the active role that the St. Mary CSSB is playing, and that “we must understand the value of police and citizen relationship in building our nation and keeping Jamaica safer for all of us”,

Sergeant Rochelle McGibbon Scott, one of the key leaders of the competition, said she was satisfied with the overall performance.

“I am pleased with the reach of this competition. We are in our third year with 10 teams and as the teams increase each year, so does our impact on the different communities,” she noted.

Sergeant McGibbon Scott said the camaraderie among the teams and officers is excellent. “I understand the passion for the game. The persons look forward to every Sunday when they come to play,” she added.

For his part, initiator of the competition, Corporal Kevron Miller, is pleased with the progress the CSSB and the community have made.

“The main objective was to get stakeholders, police and citizens working together to bridge that gap in their relationship. We have achieved that, based on my observations today,” Corporal Miller said.

He noted that persons from different communities across the parish are now “extending a hand of friendship” to each other.

The finals of the competition saw first-time entrant, Baileys Vale United, copping first place, with Bullet Strikers placing second and Islington Strikers taking third place.
