The Full Story

Cabinet has approved a contract to GM and Associates in the sum of $32.8 million, for the replacement of windows at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay.
This announcement was made by Minister of Information and Development, Donald Buchanan, at a post Cabinet press briefing, held at Jamaica House yesterday (November 27).
Mr. Buchanan said the work at the hospital would include “the removal of existing aluminum windows, modifications to window openings, using concrete block walls; and the installation of new full frame jalousie aluminum windows and paint walls”.
He also announced that Cabinet has approved a contract to Dwight’s Construction Limited in the amount of $32.4 million, to rehabilitate the Windsor Castle to Lambkill road in St. Mary.
“This is going to afford rehabilitation of some 4 kilometres of the Windsor Castle to Lambkill road, and it follows in the wake of earlier work done under the Government of Jamaica/Caribbean Development Bank Road Rehabilitation Programme, to the first nine kilometres of that road,” Mr. Buchanan said.
He pointed out that the available money was not sufficient to complete the rehabilitation of all 13 kilometres in that case, which necessitated the government providing the funds for the remaining four kilometres.
The tasks on the road will include site clearance, earthworks, drainage works, pavement works and the construction of the retaining wall.
