The Full Story

The Government has earmarked funds to procure and install equipment to continue the rollout of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) case management and station records management system and the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) jail management software.

The work will be undertaken under the Security Strengthening Project, which has been allocated $644.9 million in the 2024/25 Estimates of Expenditure.

The funds will be used to procure 500 desktop computers for the station records management system; procure 40 computers, 10 printers, 10 signature pads, 35 tablets and two cameras for the jail management software; and install the DCS’ surveillance equipment.

Installation of a citizen’s service portal software will also be completed.

Being implemented by the Ministry of National Security, with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Security Strengthening Project aims to contribute to an increase in the conviction rate for murders in the country.

To date, network equipment to facilitate connection of agencies, and fibre-optic cables and network drops for JCF high-priority sites have been installed.

The project, which was originally slated to end in March 2023, has been extended until February 2025.
