The Full Story

Twelve corporate companies have registered for the ‘Jamaica Moves:  Get Moving Corporate Challenge 2019 Circuit III’ to date.

Health Minister, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, told JIS News in an interview that the Government is seeking to build on the success of the Corporate Challenge, which was launched in 2017, as part of its ‘Jamaica Moves’ campaign.

“Last year was very successful, as we had 19 companies participating. For the 2019 Circuit, we already have 12 companies registered and it is always really inspiring to see the companies out in their numbers at the different races,” the Health Minister said.

Dr. Tufton encouraged more corporate entities to get employees involved in the challenge.

“The Ministry of Health, under its ‘Jamaica Moves’ banner, has been promoting and working with stakeholders to promote corporate engagement in a health and wellness agenda,” he added.

The 2019 Corporate Challenge comprises five races to be held from May to July. The race circuit schedule is Food For the Poor 5K on May 19; Tru-Juice Cross-Country 5K, June 2; Everyone’s A Winner/The Best Dressed Chicken 5K and 10K, June 16; School’s Out 5K on June 29, and the Welcome to Kingston 5K, July 14.

Registered companies for the 2019 circuit include Rainforest Seafoods, Restaurants of Jamaica Limited, Advanced Integrated Systems Limited, FLOW, Wisynco, National Health Fund (NHF), Jamaica Broilers Group Limited, Sagicor Group, Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, Derrimon Trading Company Limited, Main Event Entertainment Group Limited and itelBPO Smart Solutions Jamaica.

In the corporate challenge, companies earn points through staff participation in a number of races in the circuit. Companies with the most points at the end of the circuit will be declared the ‘Jamaica Moves:  Get Moving Corporate Challenge’ champions.

Other awards include the Jamaica Moves Company Spirit Award and the Jamaica Moves Male and Female champions.

Victoria Mutual Building Society won the inaugural ‘Jamaica Moves Corporate Challenge’ in 2017 and Rainforest Seafood is the defending champion.

‘Jamaica Moves’ is the Ministry of Health’s coordinated national response to the increased incidents of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

The Government is seeking to reduce NCDs by 25 per cent by the year 2025 through public education and engagement.
