COJO Honours Partners

Children of Jamaica Outreach (COJO) Inc. on May 21, honoured partners who have been instrumental in the organisation’s drive of helping to improve the health, education and general well-being of underprivileged children, at a luncheon, held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston.
The recipients were: General Manager, Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Eldon Bremner; Senior Director, Government and Community Relations, Air Jamaica, William Rodgers; and Director, Child Development Agency, Winston Bowen.
During the luncheon, two scholarship recipients were each provided with cheques valued at US$1,000, to assist in offsetting school expenses. The awardees were: Brittany Housen of Holy Childhood High School and Jason Dawson of Wolmer’s Boys’ School.

Since its inception in 1994, COJO has dedicated its resources (human and financial), to help make a difference in the lives of underserved children in Jamaica as well as the United States of America.

Chairman and Founder of COJO, Gary Williams, said that the inspiration to “give back” was developed from an early age, as people have helped him during his childhood and adult years.
He commended all the partners who have collaborated with COJO, a non-profit organisation in New York, to ensure that the needs of the children, who are in institutions, have been met and are given special attention.
Mr. Williams implored the children to strive for excellence in whatever they do. “All of you have a potential and can become productive citizens of tomorrow, so believe in that,” he told the children.
In his remarks, Mr. Bowen said that the assistance which has been provided to the children is critical.

“We are committed to ensuring that all our children receive the opportunity to express themselves and to achieve their full potential,” he said.
Scholarship recipient, Miss Housen, who aspires to be a lawyer, thanked COJO for all they have done, adding that “without them, I would have not been here.”
The organisation has also provided the National Children’s Home and the Homestead Place of Safety with equipment, such as computers, television sets, and school supplies.
Manager, Homestead Place of Safety, Laverne Belnavis, commended COJO for the “tremendous work” they have been doing over the years in assisting children across the island.
