The Full Story

Cabinet has approved a $190 million contract to D.R. Foote Construction Company, to undertake the rehabilitation of infrastructure works at Lilliput III, St. James.

Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz, made the announcement during a Post Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House on Wednesday (January 19).

Lilliput, an informal settlement in Montego Bay, St. James, has approximately 1,000 households, located on a property owned by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC).

“Under the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) Rehabilitation of Resort Area Squatter Settlement Programme, the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) Limited has been given the responsibility to upgrade the physical infrastructure in a number of North Coast communities, including Lilliput,” the Minister explained.

Mr. Vaz informed that the HAJ subdivided the community into three sections, and has completed road and drainage works in sections one and two, adding that Lilliput III, the largest section, covers the remainder of the community.

The works include the rehabilitation and construction of roads, curb and channels and storm water drains.
