Acting PS Says All In Place for Re-Opening Of Schools

January 4, 2012

The Full Story

All is in place for schools across the island to be re-opened on Monday, January 9, 2012.

Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Grace McLean, told JIS News that all the necessary grants and subventions have been posted to the accounts of institutions, to allow for the beginning of the Easter term.

"We are advising school administrators to do the necessary checks and to begin making final preparations for the start of the Easter term,” Mrs. McLean said.

In addition, the Acting Permanent Secretary  pointed out that all the necessary cleaning related activities should be completed during the course of this week, so “that our students can be off to a great start for 2012."

The start of the Easter term had to be pushed back by four days to facilitate the December 29, 2011 general election and to ensure that school administrators would have enough time to make sure that everything is in place for the new school term.

“We have made allowance for these four days within the Easter term as well as the next term that would end the school year. So, the 190 days that would have been stipulated by the Code of Regulations will not be affected in anyway,” the Acting Permanent Secretary explained.
