The Full Story

The four-day Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) Investment and Capital Markets Conference, which was held at the Rose Hall Resort and Country Club in Montego Bay, from January 27 to 30, has been described by General Manager, Marlene Street Forrest as “very successful”, having satisfactorily achieved its main objectives.
“Overall, the conference has served its purpose, given the fact that our objectives were: to ensure that the various players in the banks met and discussed pertinent issues in order to grow and develop the capital markets, I think that we achieved that. In respect to learning and growth, I think that based on the quality of the presentations, persons who, even within the sector, have been able to learn more and more ideas have been generated in order to ensure that we continue to develop the market,” she told JIS News.
Mrs. Street Forrest observed that the opportunities for the sustained developments of networking among players in the financial services across the Caribbean region and beyond were clearly established and expressed the view that much positives were expected to emerge from this in the near future.
“We are pleased to have assembled this group of knowledgeable speakers, each an outstanding professional in his or her own right to have shared with us their investigation and analysis into these stimulating and thought-provoking issues. As we mark our fortieth anniversary, we at the JSE are proud of the achievements of our past and look forward expecting continued growth and development in Jamaica and the capital markets of its neighbours,” she pointed out.
The JSE’s General Manager also expressed great optimism about the planned establishment of the Junior Stock Exchange Market and its positive effects on the expected listing of small and medium size firms within the Jamaican market and across the Caribbean.
“We have promised the market much … and we are expecting that within the next six months, we will see many companies coming to the market. What we can promise though, is that the facility will be available by April. We are also going to be establishing a website, which will show all the various elements of the Junior Market. By and large, we have fulfilled our objectives for this conference, I think it was a wonderful conference and we hope to see more persons participating in the next one, come next year,” Mrs. Street Forrest told JIS News.
