The Full Story

Two water shops are to be installed in the Clarendon North Central communities of Garden Wood and Beckford Kraal, to improve residents’ access to the commodity.

Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Information, and Member of Parliament, Hon. Robert Morgan, made the announcement during his 2023/24 State of the Constituency Debate presentation in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (November 28).

Mr. Morgan said following consultations with the Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, who visited the constituency recently, steps are being taken to construct the water shops over the short term.

“He recognised that Garden Wood has no water and committed to build a 20-thousand-gallon water shop for [the community]. We are also getting a 16,000-gallon water shop in Beckford Kraal to assist residents with their water challenges,” Minister Morgan said.

Noting the significant challenges the constituents experience in accessing potable water, he advised that plans are in the pipeline to rectify this issue.

“The future looks bright for Clarendon North Central. The Government has envisioned the creation of a treatment plant to the tune of three million gallons of water per day to serve Chapelton and Rock River. Eighty per cent of Rock River has no water; 60 per cent of Chapelton has no water,” the Minister said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Morgan informed the House that community consultations will commence soon in relation to the Rock River Treatment Plant and Dam that will, among other things, provide water to the residents of Rock River and Chapelton.
