Jamaican Writer Highly Commended in Commonwealth Short Story Competition

‘The Last Ride’ by Jamaican writer Ditta Sylvester was among the Highly Commended works in the 2007 Commonwealth Short Story Competition.
Ellen Banda-Aaku from Zambia was the overall winner of the competition.
Other Highly Commended entries came from Nigeria, South Africa, Australia, Canada, St. Lucia, India, Pakistan and the United Kingdom. There were five regional winners from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Canada, Europe and the Pacific.
The Commonwealth Short Story Competition which is held annually, aims to increase understanding between and appreciation for the different Commonwealth cultures, to display the rich diversity of the Commonwealth, and to support rising literary talents.
The Commonwealth Short Story Competition started in 1996. It is funded by the Commonwealth Foundation and administered by the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (CBA). Member stations of the CBA have the right to broadcast the short stories free of cost.
