The Full Story

The Manchester Parish Council, in collaboration with the Manchester Health Department, has scheduled a training seminar for butchers, at the Cecil Charlton Hall in Mandeville on May 30, beginning at 10:00 a.m.Secretary/Manager of the Council, Winston Palmer is urging all butchers to attend the seminar.
“The Public Health Regulation of 1989, which relates to butchers, states that one has to have a valid licence issued by the local Board of Health, and any person who fails to observe the foregoing, can be convicted before a Resident Magistrate,” he said.
Mr. Palmer stressed that the Council would not relent in applying and enforcing the necessary sanctions to protect the local consumers. “Our job is to ensure that proper standards are adhered to at the parish level,” he explained.
The Secretary/Manager said that at the seminar, health inspectors as well as other persons from the Health Ministry would conduct examinations for all prospective butchers, and review licences for renewal. He reminded that the cost for a butcher’s licence is $1,050.
Mr. Palmer noted that persons who were in need of more information could call his office at 962-2278-9 or 961-6328, or come in person to 32 Hargreaves Avenue.
