A new block of classrooms was officially opened at the BB Coke High School in St. Elizabeth, on November 12, by Minister of Education, Hon. Rev. Ronald Thwaites.

The new classrooms will provide more seats to comfortably accommodate the more than 1,400 students who attend the institution.

The school was experiencing challenges finding adequate classroom space for students, after it was recently taken off the shift system.

In his address at the ceremony, the Minister commended the school for the improvement in standards being exhibited.

“One of the things that we know that is absolutely necessary for a successful school, is a visionary principal; a person with vision and with passion,” Rev. Thwaites said.

He noted that the principal, Ms. Evadney Ledgister, is so endowed and that these traits are undoubtedly benefiting the institution.

The Minister expressed his disappointment at the slow pace of construction, which should have been completed earlier for the benefit of the many students that were inconvenienced in their studies.Rev. Thwaites said the Ministry will provide assistance, so that the new block is prepared for occupancy at the beginning of the upcoming school term.

The Minister and other Ministry officials were taken on a tour of the new block by the Principal.
