3,190 Children Benefit From Free Health Care Regime

June 8, 2007

The Full Story

A total of 3,190 youngsters have benefited from the free health care regime, which was officially implemented by the Government on May 28.
Minister of Information and Development, Donald Buchanan, made the announcement at the weekly post Cabinet press briefing held on Monday (June 4) at Jamaica House. “The numbers are in excess of what a normal week would be, but nothing that was of any phenomenal nature. It was slightly above what would be a normal accessing of these facilities by children under the age of 18 years,” Mr. Buchanan said.
As at May 28, children under the age of 18 years began receiving free health care at all government hospitals and health facilities, except the University Hospital of the West Indies.
Under the new policy, diagnostic service fees, hospital stay fees, doctor’s fees, drugs at the hospital and surgeries are among the services that will be provided free by the government health facilities.
