$31.1 Million Car Park to be Constructed at Kingston Terminal

Cabinet has approved the award of a $31. 1 million contract to Pavements and Structures Limited to construct a car park at the Kingston Container Terminal.
Minister of Information, Senator Burchell Whiteman told journalists at yesterday’s (Feb. 28) post Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, that the building of the car park was part of the improvement works being undertaken by the Port Authority to improve efficiency at the terminal.
“The Port Authority of Jamaica has been, over the years, working to ensure that Jamaica maintains and operates an excellent transshipment facility, and in furtherance to its mission, is now seeking to increase the amount of space available for parking of vehicles of the persons and companies that operate through the Kingston Container Terminal,” Minister Whiteman observed.
He said that the facility, which will be situated at Newport West, would provide approximately 7,800 square metres of parking area to accommodate 338 vehicles, and the work will also include the construction of two guardhouses.
