13th Day of Christmas – Goodwill at Christmas

25daysofchristmas

During the Christmas season in Jamaica, various groups participate in the giving of gifts and organising of treats for the more vulnerable groups in communities and state-run institutions.

Corporate, church and civic groups traditionally visit schools, children’s and nursing homes, and medical institutions bearing gifts and tasty treats.  Some also provide entertainment, many times in the form of concerts.

The call to donate also increases during the Christmas season, as representatives from many corporate and civic bodies collect cash donations in public spaces. The Salvation Army Kettle appeal is usually launched early in the season.

Collection bins for donations in kind are placed inside shopping malls and individual stores. Members of the public place donations into these conveniently located receptacles. These are later collected and the gifts given to those in need.
