The Full Story

The series of activities, which were carried out by the Westmoreland Parish Council, in observation of November as Local Government Month, culminated on Thursday (Nov. 29) at the Commingle Hotel in Savanna-La-Mar with 11 persons who have served the parish with distinction being awarded for their meritorious service.
The awardees who have given a combined 225 years of service to the parish of Westmoreland through the Parish Council, were presented with accolades and plaques for their dedication to the growth and development of the western parish.
Leading the list of awardees was Lorraine Gaynair, who has contributed 35 years of outstanding service to the Westmoreland Infirmary. Ms. Gaynair joined the Parish Council in 1966 as a temporary attendant at the Infirmary and was appointed Ward Assistant in 1969. She will retire from the service this month. Reflecting on the valuable years of cooperation and good working relationships shared with many of the awardees, Mayor of Savanna-La-Mar, Delford Morgan stressed that it was always a commendable thing to recognize and honour those who had served in their various stations.
“The Westmoreland Parish Council prides itself on quality delivery of service and so it is a good thing, a commendable thing to say thanks to people when they can appreciate it, particularly those who have served with distinction, those to whom the baton was passed many years ago and who have passed it on to others. If we display the requisite dedication to the task we are each assigned, then we too will be lauded and recognized because it’s the sum total of all our collective efforts and contributions that will make Jamaica move forward,” Mayor Morgan told JIS News.
Addressing participants at the annual awards reception, hotelier Carey Wallace, urged all citizens to develop a positive attitude, which he said would help Jamaica to become a great nation.
“I believe that the common trend among successful persons is a positive attitude. I therefore challenge and encourage you all to do the best in your present occupation and you will be surprised at the difference that can make . remember that you are all here in this world on a mission to accomplish something,” he said.
