Washington Remembers Ambassador Keith Johnson

Members of the diplomatic corps and the Caribbean communities within the Washington metropolitan area in the USA will pay tribute to the late distinguished Jamaican Ambassador to the United States, the Hon. Keith Johnson O.J., at a memorial service on Sunday (29 November).
The service is being organised by representatives of various Jamaican and Caribbean organisations, under the auspices of the Embassy of Jamaica, and will be held at Howard University’s Rankin Chapel, Washington D.C. starting at 4 p.m.
Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Anthony Johnson, in underscoring the significance of the tribute, said that Ambassador (Keith) Johnson was one of the earlier Caribbean Heads of Mission in Washington, who set the tone of excellence to which all Ambassadors from the region aspire.
Secretary of the National Coalition on Caribbean Affairs and member of the planning committee, Leopold Edwards, said that Ambassador Keith Johnson was “a diplomat’s diplomat.”
“He became recognised as the Caribbean region’s most outstanding Ambassador, in terms of his achievements,” he noted.
He served as Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States from 1981 until 1991, when he retired from the service. He passed away peacefully at his home in New York on October 1, 2009 and was buried on October 15, 2009, following a funeral in Kingston.
