The Caribbean District Optimist International will hold its first quarter Conference November 23-25, at the Hilton Kingston Hotel under the chairmanship of Governor Granville R. Newell. The Conference starts off on Friday, November 23, with a welcome reception which will be addressed by Senator Warren Newby, Parliamentary Secretary with responsibility for Youth in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports.
Her Honour Paula Blake-Powell, Resident Magistrate and Chairman of the Eastern Circuit of Children’s Courts, will make a presentation on the topic “Protecting our Children in the 21st Century”, during the Opening Ceremony on Saturday, November 24. The Business session on Saturday will feature reports from the 17 Zones of the District which stretches through the Caribbean as far down as to Suriname in South America. There will also be Workshops, and the Board of Directors Meeting.
The Conference will not be all work and no play, as at the end of the business day on Saturday, the Optimist, family and friends will join in a fabulous evening of song and dance in the Hilton’s Ballroom.
Sunday’s session will see the Optimists conducting ‘Church’ before convening the Second Business Session.
With more than 3,000 clubs and over 100,000 members serving in 37 countries, Optimist International is community-based and focuses on youth. The organization provides assistance for six million young people annually through community service projects worth some 78-million United States dollars.
