The Full Story

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has assured redundant sugar workers that within a month they will be receiving payments due to them.
Last night (May 27) he told listeners on his call-in radio programme Jamaica House Live, “We gave an undertaking that redundancy payments will be made in June. Both the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed to me a week ago that plans are in place for redundancy payments to be made in the first half of the month.”
The Prime Minister also noted that re-employment of the displaced workers will depend to a great extent on the privatization efforts.
“The Sugar divestment team is in negotiations with parties who indicated interest in the tender,” he said; and he promised that he would continue to keep the nation abreast of developments in this important sector.
