St. James Residents Impacted by Hurricane Beryl Get Housing Relief Grants

St. James residents who were impacted by Hurricane Beryl have received assistance for minor home repairs through the St. James Municipal Corporation’s Housing Relief Grant.
Cheques totalling $5 million were distributed to 119 residents across the 17 divisions in the parish on Friday (September 27), at the St. James Cultural Centre.
Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Richard Vernon, in his remarks, noted that the Corporation was pleased to assist persons in the rebuilding effort.
Chief Executive Officer of the St. James Municipal Corporation, Naudia Crosskill, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the support.
“We are making sacrifices to provide you with this assistance, so please use it for its intended purpose,” she said.
“When we come and do a post visit, we want to see that it was [properly used],” she added.
Beneficiary from the Welcome Hall Division, Kareen Bernard, expressed appreciation for the support she received after losing her roof and windows during the hurricane.
“You have a lot of persons who were impacted and they can’t afford repairs, so even if it doesn’t fulfil everything, it’s good to get help,” she said.
