The Full Story

Member of Parliament for St. Catherine North East, Kerensia Morrison, says improving the road network will be among her priority areas of focus for the fiscal year.

Works valued at $60 million have been approved for Williamsfield to Troja, Williamsfield to Mount Industry, and Vanity Fair to Guys Hill.

Ms. Morrison, who was making her contribution to the State of the Constituency debate in the House of Representatives on October 12, said that discussions are under way to improve other critical roads in the constituency, particularly farm roads, for easier transport of goods to markets.

“A significant number of the roads in North Eastern St. Catherine are classified as farm roads… rural constituencies have to be priority for farm roads,” she noted.

Meanwhile, in the Mount Industry division where the roadways are compromised, six retaining walls will be constructed at a cost of approximately $40 million.

Rehabilitation of the Guys Hill main road, valued at $50 million, is under way as well as planned rehabilitation for the Ratsville Road at a cost of $12 million.

Ms. Morrison informed that focus will also be placed on giving assistance to farmers impacted by inclement weather.

“This year, there is a provision of $750,000, which will be used to mitigate losses from the recent storm,” the Member of Parliament said.

In addition, plastic water tanks were distributed to farmers through the MP’s office and 10 drip irrigation kit systems were provided through the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA).
