The Full Story

The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport is now ready to implement the Sports Registry.

Portfolio Minister, Hon. Olivia Grange, said that the facility will be similar to the Entertainment Registry,

“It will be a register of sports personnel in Jamaica and will be used in the development of policy and programmes and assist in the calculation of the contribution of sport to national development,” she said.

“I appeal to athletes, coaches and other stakeholders in the sports sector to sign up to the registry. The Entertainment Division is also learning from the experience of the Sports Division in the management of the Jamaica

Athletes Insurance Plan,” she added.

The Minister was making her contribution to the 2023/24 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on June 13.

She also informed that the Ministry will, this year, begin implementing a Group Health and Life Insurance plan for entertainment and cultural practitioners.

“We will soon announce the details of the insurance programme and how entertainment and cultural practitioners will be able to participate. However, practitioners must be signed up to the e-Registry on the Ministry’s website to participate,” she indicated.

She informed that through the e-Registry, the Ministry will be able to have data that can inform future plans.

“We will be able to assist individual practitioners in sports and entertainment to better their lives and to make use of the opportunities out there,” Ms. Grange said.
