The Full Story

State Minister for Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Sharon Ffolkes Abrahams, says a location has been identified to host the Montego Bay campus of the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI).

She made the pronouncement while contributing to the 2013/14 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on June 25.

Mrs. Ffolkes Abrahams pointed out that the facility will provide another tier of educational development for the young people in her West Central St. James constituency, where the site has been identified and for the entire parish.

“Very importantly, this branch will provide an opportunity for young people in the western end of the island to help meet the skills requirements of the logistics hub,” she said.

The State Minister expressed condolence to the families of the two third year CMI students who died in a tragic car accident on June 21.

In the meantime, the Minister also informed Parliament that over 600 persons in her constituency have received educational assistance in the form of scholarships, uniforms, books and tuition.
