March 11, 2009

The Full Story

The driving skills of bus operators employed to the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) will be significantly improved with the installation of a state-of-the-art bus driver simulator at the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) at Palisadoes Park in Kingston.
The simulator, valued at Euro $1.1 million, is part of a joint project between the Governments of Belgium and Jamaica, and will enhance the JUTC’s driver training programme.
Speaking at a ceremony to officially open the simulation and training rooms at the Institute on March 5, Minister of Transport and Works, Michael Henry, said the simulator “is the latest in a series of steps to have been taken by the Government in partnership with both the private and public sector of Jamaica and Belgium.”
The Belgian Government has been instrumental in the establishment of the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre and the acquisition of buses for the JUTC, among other areas of support.
