Senate Welcomes Malahoo Forte

The Senate welcomed former Resident Magistrate, Marlene Malahoo Forte, as its newest member, after she was sworn in at Gordon House on Friday (July 17).
President of the Senate, the Hon. Oswald Harding, joined the members in welcoming Mrs. Malahoo Forte, adding that he looked forward to her contributions to the debates.
Opposition member, Senator K.D. Knight, said he believes that she will contribute significantly to the debates.
Leader of Government Business, Senator Dorothy Lightbourne, said she hoped that Senator Malahoo Forte’s presence will assist in bringing the Senators together, to ensure that laws are passed to provide the framework for Jamaica’s economic and social development.
Senator Malahoo Forte was sworn in as Senator and Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade by the Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen at King’s House on Wednesday.
Prime Minister the Hon. Bruce Golding announced then that her appointment fills the vacancy resulting from the resignation of Colonel Trevor MacMillan, the former Minister of National Security.
Senator Malahoo Forte had an outstanding career as a Resident Magistrate, previously served as Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions and is a past President of the Association of Resident Magistrates as well as the Legal Officers Staff Association. She is currently the Chairperson of the Women’s Leadership Initiative.
