The Full Story

The Social Development Commission (SDC) is to host a Product Standardisation Session for small businesses on Wednesday, September 18, at the Y’s Menettes Resource Centre in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.

Scheduled for 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the session is open to the public, particularly local businessowners and entrepreneurs seeking to improve their products through proper labelling and standardisation.

It forms part of activities being carried out under the SDC’s Local Economic Development Support Programme.

Interested persons are being asked to register by calling 876-918-0996 or visiting the SDC Westmoreland Parish Office at Shop 24, Dunbar Mall, Savanna-la-Mar.

Director, Local Economic Development at the SDC, Avril Ranger, told JIS News that the session will provide participants with the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively market their products.

“By equipping our local entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge they need, we are ensuring that they can compete in larger markets and contribute to the overall development of the country,” said Ms. Ranger.

The session will feature presentations from key organisations, such as the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA), the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) and the SDC.

Participants will also receive vital information on product labelling, packaging and testing to ensure their goods meet both national and international standards.

The SDC is the principal community development agency working with Jamaica’s 775 communities.

It remains steadfast in its mission to support economic development at the community level, providing the necessary resources for small businesses to succeed during challenging times.
