The Full Story

The Registrar General’s Department (RGD) has opened a branch at 3 Jewel Close in Santa Cruz, to meet the growing demand for services by the people of St. Elizabeth.

Speaking to JIS News at today’s (Jan. 31) opening, Chief Executive Officer of the RGD, Dr. Patricia Holness, said that the Santa Cruz office brought to three, the number of regional offices that have been commissioned into operation since the start of the year.

“Last Monday (Jan. 24), the first office for 2005 was opened in Portland at 19 West Palm Avenue, while the Westmoreland office came online two days later at 7½ Lewis Street,” she informed.

“In some way, this is like a new year gift. It is really us rolling out our corporate plan and in fact, this is the last office that we will be opening for now,” she further informed.

Dr. Holness observed that regional offices would offer the “full slate” of services including birth, death, adoption and marriage certificates, registry weddings, deed polls, genealogical research, late registration, re-registration, addition of father’s particulars and the correction of errors.

Dr. Holness indicated that she was quite heartened by the very “positive feedback” that she had received from persons, who had accessed the recently opened offices.

“Today, I saw an article from a client from Portmore, who commended us for the move we have made. The writer also made a desperate plea for us to take our services to Portmore…I wish to inform him that we have looked at the possibility and what we are in fact doing is sending out our mobile unit to service the area,” she informed.

The Santa Cruz Regional office will be opened between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays.
