Reminder – Tips on How to Make Drinking Water Safe

The Meteorological Service is advising that Tropical Storm Tomas continues to move westward but could re-strengthen near Jamaica later this week. On the forecast track, Tomas is expected to remain a tropical storm south of Hispaniola until Wednesday, dramatically turn towards Haiti on Thursday and move across Haiti to the North Atlantic Ocean on Friday.
Jamaica should feel impacts from the outer bands of the storm on Thursday and Friday as it passes some distance east of the island. Periods of heavy rainfall and strong, gusty winds could be experienced, mainly over eastern parishes and eastern waters. Above normal wave heights should also be expected over inshore and offshore areas of the northern and southeastern coasts.
In light of this the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is reminding persons to take the necessary precautions in the event water becomes contaminated. read more…
