April 19, 2012

The Full Story

National Security Minister, Hon. Peter Bunting, says the membership of the new Major Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption (MOCA) Task Force, is currently being recruited and vetted.

Speaking at a media briefing, on his first 100 days in office, at the Ministry’s New Kingston offices on Wednesday April 18, Mr. Bunting advised that the membership would include representatives from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), Financial Investigations Division (FID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, among other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, with support from the country’s international partners.

The multi-agency task force, which is targeted for a May operational launch, will focus on taking the profit out of crime, by confiscation of the proceeds acquired through illicit activities.

Additionally, Mr. Bunting said, MOCA would target criminal kingpins as well as their facilitators and accommodators, including corrupt public officials.
