The Ministry of Health will be staging a ‘Ready, Set, Sweat’ event at Turtle River Park, St. Ann, on Thursday (May 17) to mark World Hypertension Day under the theme ‘Know your numbers’.
Acting Director, Non-Communicable Diseases and Injury Prevention in the Ministry, Dr. Beverley Wright, told JIS News that Ready, Set, Sweat is part of the Jamaica Moves road tour that began last year, and “will be filled with a plethora of activities for participants”.
“As is customary at all Jamaica Moves road shows, there will also be workout sessions, beginning at 4:00 p.m., and the final session will end at 9:00 p.m.,” noted Dr. Wright.
She said that free health screenings will be offered on location as well as discussions on hypertension with a special focus on hypertension in pregnancy.
She added that the activities lined up for the day will be exciting and engaging for all ages.
Dr. Wright used the opportunity to remind individuals to remain active and monitor sodium intake, while also inviting those who will be in the St. Ann region to come out and participate in Ready, Set, Sweat.
