Jamaica is blessed with a lot of natural resources, many of which need to be extracted from the earth in order to be processed into usable products. Some ready examples are bauxite and limestone.
While these mined resources are obtained on the island, the majority tend to be shipped overseas to manufactures who process them into other products, which are then sold either back to us in Jamaica, and other countries.
The Government believes however that the time has come for Jamaica to occupy a greater stake in the processing of mineral resources and is actively exploring ways to make this a reality.
