Quality standards are relied upon my manufacturers to ensure their products look, taste, or perform consistently. Meaning if you by them tomorrow or ten years from now, they should offer the same value for money.
In Jamaica several government agencies help ensure that local manufacturers maintain consistency and quality in their output. One of which is the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA).
