Failing to observe silence zones is an offence under the Road Traffic Act.
Head of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, PSTEB Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary McKenzie says silence zones are areas around schools, hospitals, infirmaries, courts, and other designated government buildings such as the Houses of Parliament.
He outlines that the honking of horns, loud engines, mufflers and loud music are some of the main causes of disturbances of the peace in silence zones.
