Fisher folk across Jamaica can now feel some sense of relief as their main source of income will be protected with the new Fisheries Act set to come into effect in short order. Under the new law, the Fisheries Division will be transformed into the National Fisheries Authority (NFA) to manage and develop strategies for the sector as well as increase the maximum fines for breaches of the law.

The Rural Agriculture Development Authority (RADA) is encouraging farmers to practice safe land clearing methods in order to prevent land degradation. RADA CEO Peter Thompson says because of unhealthy land practices farmers have been reaping negative impacts on their soil, limiting their crop productivity overtime.
