RADA Conducts Farmer Registration Process in St. Mary and Portland

November 25, 2004

The Full Story

Officers from the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) will be visiting farms in St. Mary today (Nov. 25) and in Portland on Monday (Nov. 29) to collect information to be used in the National Farmer Registration Programme.
The programme is designed to improve marketing opportunities and to allow for better development planning in the agricultural sector.
Among the information to be garnered are the types of crops cultivated by each farmer; the location and size of each farm; the level of production of each farmer; and farming practises.
Once the nationwide registration process is completed, the information will be placed online, where it will be readily available to markets locally and abroad as well as agricultural planners; provide details on farming activities conducted in the country; and used as reference to the country’s agricultural production system.
Farmers are being advised to look out for the officers and provide the relevant information. Those unable to participate in the registration process on the designated days, can visit the RADA parish offices during this week and provide the relevant information.
The registration programme is expected to uplift the farming sectors of the parishes and serve as a serious deterrent to praedial larceny.
