Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, has commended the Wisynco Group for the significant investment the company has made in Jamaica, and its mission to improve the lives of the people.
Mrs. Simpson Miller was speaking at a ceremony, following a tour of the Wisynco Plant in Central Village, St. Catherine, today (September 16), to view a new $600 million filling and packing production line being utilised at the facility.
The Prime Minister explained that this upgrade is a reflection of Wisynco’s confidence in Jamaica and underscores the Government’s focus on the manufacturing sector as one of the key target areas to advance the country’s economic growth.
She said the Government has been furthering this focus by coordinating the implementation of legislative and administrative reform, especially through the National Competitiveness Council.
“The manufacturing sector is vital to Jamaica’s growth agenda and to securing the expansion in production and employment needed to significantly boost our rate of economic growth,” Mrs. Simpson Miller emphasised.
She said this mission is being moved forward through the policy and programmatic assistance of the recently expanded National Export Strategy, and expressed a commitment to further improve Jamaica’s ranking on the key global business performance indices that signal ease of getting business, production and export done.
“We are keen on the role that increased export trade must play in production and business expansion, earning much-needed revenues, creating a lot more jobs and stepping up the rate of economic growth and national progress,” Mrs. Simpson Miller said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Group, William Mahfood, expressed a commitment to continue supporting the country through job creation.
Mr. Mahfood pointed out that the country is the fastest growing market in the world for Coca-Cola, of which Wisynco is the exclusive franchise holder in Jamaica.
The Wisynco Group is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
