Thirty-five of the nation’s distinguished educators are to be recognized by Prime Minister Bruce Golding for their outstanding contribution to education. The educators will be presented with the Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation for service to Education, at a ceremony scheduled for the National Arena on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The ceremony was originally scheduled for the Lawns of Jamaica House.
The Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation for service to Education is awarded annually and presented to a teacher with a minimum of 15 years service to education in Jamaica and whose service is regarded as outstanding.
To be considered for the award, recipients must have shown evidence of community involvement including participation in civic and club activities. Educators involved with uniformed groups and programmes that foster the development of the community and, creativity in the service rendered, may also be considered for the award.
The award will be presented to persons who are citizens of Jamaica but in exceptional circumstances, a person who is not a citizen may be recommended for the award.
