Matthew Samuda (centre), hands over a report on the implementation of the ‘Jamaica Strategic Corrections Partnership Project’ to United Kingdom (UK) High Commissioner to Jamaica, His Excellency Asif Ahmad, during a brief presentation ceremony at the Ministry’s offices in New Kingston on November 11. The project, which was initiated in 2017 with funding support of £620,000 from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and concluded recently, was undertaken to improve the Department of Correctional Service’s (DCS) operational capacity, reduce recidivism among offenders, and provide ex-offenders with community reintegration support. All 11 of the island’s correctional facilities and several ex-offenders benefitted from the donation, which was channeled through the UK’s Conflict, Stability and Security Fund that operates globally. Looking on is Commissioner of Corrections, Lt. Col. (Retired) Gary Rowe.
