The Full Story

Wife of Prime Minister, the Hon. Bruce Golding, Lorna Golding, is encouraging parents to get involved in the education of their children from a very early age.
She advised them to start by encouraging their children to read. “When your child comes to you, if you can’t even read, some of you don’t have to be ashamed you (can) say to your children: ‘read to me let me hear’,” Mrs. Golding suggested.
She was speaking at the opening ceremony for the St. Joseph’s Infant School’s mini health fair on Thursday November 25 at the institution’s location on Duke Street, Kingston.
Mrs. Golding further implored parents to liaise with the teachers and principals of their children’s schools in order to ensure that they get the best possible education.

“When you partner with your principal (and teacher), you are only taking your child a little further. You are covering your child from one end and your teacher (and principal) are covering him or her from another end and with that kind of coverage, how can they go wrong?” she questioned.
Held under the theme: ‘Your health is your wealth’, the fair forms part of activities by the school to mark Parents’ Month in November.
The school also hosted several fora aimed at empowering the minds of parents, covering topics such as conflict management, dealing with HIV/AIDS, and how to read, play and talk with your child everyday.
At the event parents benefitted from blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, body fat, weight and eye tests, which were conducted by health volunteers from the East Jamaica Conference of Seventh Day Adventists.
