Orrett Rhoden to Perform in Washington Oct. 8

The internationally acclaimed Jamaican piano player, Orrett Rhoden, is set to delight residents in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, when he performs at the John F. Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theatre, on Friday, October 8.
The performance will feature selections from Mendelssohn, Granados, Beethoven and Chopin.
Scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., the function is being hosted by the New York-based American Foundation for the University of the West Indies (AFUWI) and the University of the West Indies Alumni Association, Washington D.C. chapter, under the distinguished patronage of the University’s Chancellor, Sir George Alleyne, who is also Director Emeritus of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
Mr. Rhoden has done several recitals at New York’s historic Carnegie Hall. He has also done numerous performances in concert halls in Europe, among them London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall and St. John’s Smith Square, and has performed an all-Bach recital in Bolzano, Italy, as part of the Busoni International Piano Competition.
He has appeared at the Conservatory of Music in Barcelona, Spain, and performed with such conductors as Andre Bernard, Harry Levinson, Claudio Abbado and Virginia-Gene Rittenhouse. Mr. Rhoden has twice appeared on the Late Night Show featuring Joan Rivers in Hollywood and other talk shows throughout the United States, United Kingdom and China.
In 2005, Mr. Rhoden received an award for outstanding achievement in music from the Prime Minister of Jamaica.
The AFUWI is a non-profit entity that serves as the primary vehicle for the University of the West Indies in its fundraising efforts in the United States. This is done by organising special events, locating funding sources, facilitating research programmes and developing partnerships with American corporations, Foundations, alumni and other organisations.
