November 19, 2010

The Full Story

“Empowering Citizens to Utilize Available Resources” is the theme for this year’s Expo to be hosted by the Old Harbour Development Area Committee (OHDAC) on (Wednesday) November 24 in the St. Catherine community.
This year will mark the eighth staging of the annual event, which will be held on the grounds of the Portmore Community College.
The goal of Expo 2010 is to bring together “grassroots” individuals and corporate entities to interface, and to allow attendees a chance to showcase their products and services.
Chairman of the OHDAC, Randy Finnikin, told JIS news that, given the current financial, challenges, there is a need to find opportunities in it.
The need for caused the Committee to get a guest speaker who could reach out to the target audience and someone whom the audience would respect and can relate to. Hence, Business Management Consultant and Newspaper Columnist, Dr. Henley Morgan, will be the guest speaker.
Dr. Morgan’s business is located in Arnett Gardens, Trench Town, and the years of experience working in that environment has opened his eyes to the wealth of knowledge, skills and talents that reside there. He will also touch on the topic of social transformation.
The Expo promises to give patrons a chance to have one-on-one discussions with corporate entities and business persons. The programme begins at 9.30 a.m. with general viewing, followed by the opening ceremony at 11a.m, with the day’s programme going until 5.30 p.m.
It will attract thousands of individuals, and this year will display over 35 booths, set up by organizations including the Rural Agricultural Development Authority
(RADA), the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), the Ministry of Education, 4-H Clubs, The Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), as well as some community based organizations.
