NWA Implementing A-Road Patching Programme

June 23, 2005

The Full Story

The National Works Agency (NWA) is currently implementing a new A-road patching programme, valued at over $31million, to benefit all 14 parishes in the island.
“This A-road patching programme addresses the main arterial roads that link township to township,” Petra-kene Williams, Acting Communication and Customer Services Manager at the NWA told JIS News in an interview.
She said that given the inclement weather conditions, which the island experienced recently, repairs to the roadways were delayed. Currently, mixing of the asphalt has begun and potholes in the designated areas have already been marked in preparation for patching.
The programme will last for three months and will address the potholes along the major road network. Motorists and pedestrians alike will benefit from this programme, as destination points will become more accessible.
The NWA, in keeping with the three-month deadline, has awarded contracts to 17 contractors islandwide, one or more from each parish. The awarding of contracts to different contractors is to ensure that repairs begin simultaneously islandwide and that the work is completed in the time allotted. Funding for the programme is derived from motor vehicle taxes, one third of which is spent to repair roads.
