The National Housing Trust (NHT) is inviting applications for its Special Home Improvement Loan from persons whose houses sustained damage during Hurricane Beryl’s passage on July 3.
Funding of up to $1.5 million can be accessed, which can be used for various reasons.
These include repairing damaged roofs and rectifying structural issues or other home-related challenges.
Applications for the facility, which is open to past and current NHT mortgagors, must be submitted by September 30.
Assistant General Manager for Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Dwayne Berbick, says the loan forms part of the NHT’s ongoing commitment to assist persons affected by the hurricane.
“We understand the challenges faced by many of our contributors, and this is our way of providing crucial support. We encourage qualified mortgagors to utilise this opportunity and access the funds they may need,” he said.
Mr. Berbick advised that persons who have accessed other NHT loan products can still apply for this special facility.
Meanwhile, NHT Manchester Branch Manager, Eric McLeish, explained that to qualify for the loan, applicants must reside at the premises and their name should appear on the title of the property for which funding is being sought.
He indicated that the interest rate applicable will be calculated using the NHT’s current bands, which range from zero to five per cent, based on corresponding incomes.
Individuals can apply for the Special Home Improvement Loan through the Trust’s website or in-person at the nearest NHT office.
For more information on the application requirements, persons are encouraged to visit the NHT’s website at www.nht.gov.jm.
